City Overview

Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province, is one of the largest and most dynamic cities in China. Known for its history spanning over 2,200 years and its role as a major trade and innovation hub, Guangzhou is a modern metropolis combining business, culture, food, and scenic attractions.

Often called the “City of Flowers,” Guangzhou features lush greenery year-round, a subtropical climate, well-developed transportation, and convenient access to the rest of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Travel & Transportation

  • Airport: Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN), one of Asia’s major hubs.
  • Metro: 18+ metro lines covering virtually the entire city; signs and announcements are in English.
  • Rail: Three major stations (Guangzhou Station, East Station, South Station) offering high-speed trains to Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, etc.
  • Taxi / Ride-hailing: Didi, CaoCao and other apps widely available.

Climate

Guangzhou has a humid subtropical climate. ISIT 2026 takes place in July, which is:

  • Warm to hot (28–34°C on most days)
  • Humid, with occasional rain showers or thunderstorms
  • Indoor venues almost universally air-conditioned

Participants may wish to prepare light clothing, sun protection, and an umbrella.

  • Electricity: 220V, Type A / Type I / Type C plugs are commonly used.
  • Time Zone: GMT+8 (China Standard Time), no daylight saving.
  • Language: Mandarin is widely spoken; Cantonese is commonly used locally.
  • Payment: WeChat Pay and Alipay widely accepted; foreign credit cards now supported in both apps.
